A child in the preoperational stage also lacks the principle of conservation. This is the knowledge that quantity is unrelated to the arrangement and physical appearance of objects. Children who have not passed this stage do not know that the amount, volume or length of an object does not change length when the shape of the configuration is changed. Piaget declared that this is not mastered until the next stage of development. The concrete operational stage lasts from the age of seven to twelve years of age. The beginning of this stage is marked by the mastery of the principal of conservation.

Introduction on Volume of Liquid
Volume of liquid refers to the capacity of liquids in the containers. Capacity of liquids in the containers. Capacity can be measured by using non standard units (more or less) and in standard units in millitres(ml) and litres (l) in the metric system.
When measuring a small liquid volume , such as a dosage of cough syrup, the unit is millitres. A slightly larger volume ,like the amount of flour or sugar would be measured using cups. Meanwhile the volume of a large amount for example a bottle of milk, can be measured using litres.

These lessons are designed for grade 2. Upon completion of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:

- understand the importance of knowing and using the measurements.
- observe shapes and sizes in measurements.

Pupils observe and compare height, weight, small, larger, lighter, short. Pupils been introduced to the vocabulary 'empty', half full' and 'full'. Comparisons on containers which hold more or less water.
The bigger containers show more volume of liquid while the smaller containers give us less volume of liquid.

Conclusion
The learning of volume of liquid begins with concrete experience in realistic situations through
measuring using both standard and non-standard units.The capacity of liquid in standard unis are measured in millimetres and litres in the metric system . While in non-standard units we measure by stating the capacity whether more or less.
